Thank you for your interest in pursuing employment with the University of Florida Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC). In addition to employment opportunities that may be available at the SWFREC, opportunities also may occur directly related to the Wildlife Ecology Program. These opportunities vary in nature and may range from full-time positions with benefits, to part-time positions for assistants on field research projects. All employment opportunities are advertised through multiple outlets, including this web site. Position descriptions, applicant qualifications, and application materials and deadlines will be defined in position advertisements. Because of the volume of employment inquiries that I receive, it is my policy not to respond to unsolicited applications. Current Employment Opportunities There currently are no positions being advertised in the Wildlife Ecology Program. SWFREC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Institution Volunteer Opportunities Thank you for your interest in participating as a volunteer in the Wildlife Ecology Program at the University of Florida Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC). Volunteering provides an exciting opportunity to participate in wildlife research. Also, providing volunteer assistance on field research projects is an excellent way for persons interested in environmental careers to increase hands-on experience and learn new skills in the field of wildlife ecology and conservation. In addition to field research, there may be opportunities to assist in environmental education, particularly when the Agro-Ecology Interpretive Trail is completed at the SWFREC. Opportunities for volunteers to participate in field research and other projects in the Wildlife Ecology Program frequently arise. The level of involvement and time committed to projects by volunteers is at the discretion of both the volunteer and the project supervisor. A volunteer is any person who, of his or her own free will, provides services to the university with no monetary or material compensation, on a continuous, occasional, or one-time basis. If volunteers are injured while performing the designated volunteer work, they will be covered by either the University's workers' compensation program or state liability insurance as appropriate (Bob Willits, Interim Director, University Personnel Services, April 29, 1998). Applying for Volunteer Opportunities Because of the nature of volunteer opportunities, it is my policy to maintain an active file of potential volunteers that I may call upon when opportunities present themselves. To be included in this file, I request that you provide a resume and a short letter describing your general interests, such as field research or environmental education, and a rough idea of your ability to commit time to volunteer activities.
