Welcome to the Wildlife Ecology Home Page at the University of Florida Southwest Florida Research and Education Center (SWFREC). The mission of the Wildlife Ecology program at SWFREC is to provide information that promotes understanding, conservation, and management of wildlife and wildlife habitat on public and private lands. Specific goals are to:

  1. Generate and disseminate scientific information on wildlife, including their behavior, ecology, and habitat requirements;

  2. Evaluate the benefits/consequences of land-use management strategies and provide information that promotes stewardship of wildlife resources; and

  3. Provide educational opportunities and disseminate information on wildlife and their habitat to promote a better-informed citizenry.
