Hendry County Sustainable Biofuels Center
The goal of the Hendry County Sustainable Biofuels Center is to foster the development
of a sustainable industry for biodiesel, cellulosic ethanol, and other biofuels
in south Florida by addressing some of the core needs not currently the subject
of study and investment by other institutions or the private sector. The center
is committed to provide regional government agencies, private companies, and other
groups with independent analysis of biofuels systems, make recommendations for their
enhancement and coordinate programs to develop improved biofuels systems.
By aggressively pursuing a unique direction in biofuels research and development,
Hendry County is dedicated to become one of the leaders in what will soon become
a national and international priority – helping biofuels contribute to local economies
and national security while also ensuring that a growing biofuels industry does
not inadvertently contribute to local or global ecological problems.
The primary objective of the center is to bridge the divide between our current
ability to produce biofuels and our need to produce biofuels in a manner that yields
net returns of energy at low costs to our natural resource assets. Center activities
are designed to meet this objective through the delivery of research products, systems
evaluation, systems demonstration, and workforce development by building a model
partnership between the public and private sectors.
