Vegetable BMPs

Agricultural “Best Management Practices” (BMPs) is a generic term that encompasses a wide range of nonstructural and structural practices, intended to effectively reduce or prevent off-farm impacts and pollutant loads in target watersheds and related ecosystems while maintaining agricultural productivity and profitability. The current Florida Vegetable and Row Crop BMP manual ( lists 49 approved BMPs. While the BMP manual recognizes several nutrient management strategies (including avoidance of fertilizer rates that exceed current recommendations), the long-term success of this voluntary program is based on water quality improvement.
