Vegetable BMPs

Agricultural “Best Management Practices” (BMPs) is a generic term that encompasses a wide range of nonstructural and structural practices, intended to effectively reduce or prevent off-farm impacts and pollutant loads in target watersheds and related ecosystems while maintaining agricultural productivity and profitability. The current Florida Vegetable and Row Crop BMP manual (www.floridaagwaterpolicy.com) lists 49 approved BMPs. While the BMP manual recognizes several nutrient management strategies (including avoidance of fertilizer rates that exceed current recommendations), the long-term success of this voluntary program is based on water quality improvement.
