Nova Tangelo

Nova Tangelo

Type and parentage: Tangelo (Clementine X Orlando)
Average diameter (inches): 2 3/4 - 3
Seeds per fruit: 1-30
Commercial harvest season: November - December

The Nova tangelo has consistently performed quite well since its release. Cross pollination is required by varieties such as Lee, Temple, Orlando, or Sunburst. there is a tendency for fruit to dry out prematurely, particularly with trees on lemon-type and Carrizo citrange rootstocks. Fruit does not respond well to degreening. The tree is quite cold tolerant.

Selections available at the Immokalee Foundation:

NOVA-SPB-800-7-41-X-E: A USDA hybrid released in 1964. Requires pollination for best yields. Early maturing with fruit similar to Orlando but with higher quality.
