Determine Stock Unit Days of Grazing

Determining grazing capacity for native range (Offsite Link)

200 g per 0.25 m2

200 g/454 g lb-1 = 0.44 lb

0.25 m2 = 6.18 x 10-5 acre

0.44 lb/6.18 x 10-5 acre = 7,120 lb/acre

Animal Unit Equivalence (AUE) = Wt. Animal lbs..75 / 1000 lb..75
AUE is a numerical value to express the forage requirements of a particular kind of animal
relative to the requirement s of the animal unit.

Total Animal Unit Months (AUM) = lbs consumable forage / 780 lbs AUM-1
AUM is the amount of forage required by a 1000 lb cow for a 30-day period.
26 lbs DM x 30 days = 780 lbs DM

7,120 lb acre-1 x 100 acre = 712,000 lbs

712,00 lbs / 780 lbs AUM-1 = 912 AUM

The 100 acres could support 912 AUs for 1 month or 76 AUs for 12 months.
