Extension programs target: Demonstration trials with existing and introduced forage grasses regarding yield and quality, and adaptation of these grasses to southwest Florida (SMP FL 102); Nutrient management to improve production of forages and sugarcane (SMP FL 102); Addressing problems that are limiting agricultural production or profits as related to pastures and sugarcane nutritional constraints (SMP FL 102 and FL 129); Developing, together with other faculty and leaders of the Florida cattle and sugarcane industries, education programs that advance technology and improve production in an environmentally sensitive area (SMP FL 102 and FL 129); Educational efforts in forages and sugar cane production and management encompass the training of county extension faculty, service on programmatic design teams with other specialists, and direct interaction with producers and related industry through promotion of short courses, publications, group presentations and individual consultations. |
